About

Here you’ll find info about Indigo Film School and why I created it.

About Me

I’m Ian Bailey, the founder of Indigo Film School. I’ve been working professionally in media production and higher education for the past 20 years. As well as creating training for Indigo Film School, I work as a video editor and motion graphics designer. I live in the East of England with my wife Ruthi, who’s an artist and illustrator.

Over the years, I’ve work in all areas of filmmaking: production, postproduction and story development. I love exploring these different disciplines and sharing my in-depth knowledge with you. I love discovering great solutions to filmmaking problems.

About Indigo Film School

I created Indigo Film School because a lot of filmmaking degrees aren’t giving filmmakers the skills they need to start their careers. When I worked for a British university, I noticed how students’ hopes and dreams changed over the three years of their degree. When they started the course, it was, ‘We’re gonna make movies and conquer the world!’ But by the time they graduated, ‘Well I guess I should make wedding videos.’

I’ve nothing against wedding videos. But, I felt disappointed that students were losing their drive to pursue their dreams and the desire to be the best. The reality is, you can easily graduate with a filmmaking degree without knowing the basics of filmmaking. And this is because the course is academic, rather than professional and practical.

I think of professional filmmaking as having three pillars:

  • Technical skills
  • Storytelling
  • Entrepreneurship

As a contrast to the academic approach, I’m creating training that focus on the first two, technical skills and storytelling. Giving you the skills to get a head start in your filmmaking career.

I want to see creative people reach their true potential. I want you to have the knowledge and confidence you need to make films and be successful.

Your imagination is limitless. Crew-up and conquer the screen!
